Tell me if this sounds like you:

You know you want to scan your old photos but you don’t even know where to start.

You know you need to get your old photos into a form that can be easily shared.

You don’t have a clue about best practices for scanning old photographs.

You started scanning your old photos but got overwhelmed and just put the project aside.

You’re concerned about all the tech stuff.

You wish you had a step-by-step guide to tell you exactly what to do.

Good news!

I’ve scanned hundreds of photos!

And there are common mistaken mindsets that can block your scanning project’s success from the start.

Mistaken Mindsets like…

Mistaken Mindset 01

“I need to scan every photo I have.”

The truth is that not all photographs are worth scanning.

Of course, you can scan anything you want to scan, but you can also be more selective.

Being selective allows you to focus on the photographs that are most important and shortens the amount of time spent at the scanner.

In this course, I’ll walk you through the photo selection process.

Mistaken Mindset 02

“All I need to do is grab my photos, my computer, and my scanner and start scanning.”

The truth is there are steps you can take up front — before you even touch the scanner — that will set your photo digitizing project up for success.

In the course, I’ll teach you about the things you need to do before you start scanning as well as provide step-by-step workflows.

Mistaken Mindset 03

“All scanners are created equal. I can use any old one.”

The truth is that there are scanner types and scanner features that are best for digitizing old photographs. In fact, certain types of scanners will actually damage your precious photographic print.

This course walks you through scanner types and features that are best for scanning old photos.

Mistaken Mindset 04

“Once my scanner and computer are connected, my scanner is all set to scan.”

The truth is that scanners aren’t necessarily set up to scan old photos the best way.

Even though they may not be set up that way, you can change scanner settings to get the best scans of your old photos.

This course describes the scanner settings and tells you how they should be set.

Mistaken Mindset 05

“I’ve scanned all my print photos, and now I’m done.”

The truth is that, if you stop after the scanning step, your scanned images may not survive for the long term.

They still need to be organized, labeled, and stored properly so that you (or someone in the future) know what you have and can access them.

This course guides you through digital image organizing and labeling as well as best practices for digital storage.

Mistaken Mindset 06

“Nobody cares about my old family photos.”

The truth is someone does care. It may be someone in the present or someone in the future, but if you don’t care for the photos, those people will never see them.

This course will guide you step-by-step through a photo digitizing project so that you can create a digital family photo archive for yourself and future generations.

Imagine…

There is a step-by-step process for creating a digital family photo archive…

You could finally share your old family photos easily

You could actually move through the process without getting overwhelmed

You could feel confident because you were using the methods and techniques that archivists use

Who created the course?

Pamela H. Mayer, MSLS

Hi, I’m Pam!

I’m an archivist and the creator of Digitizing Photos Made Simple.

I archive through a family history lens. Whether you’re a genealogy enthusiast, a family history buff, or simply someone with a treasure chest of old family photos, I’m here to guide you in creating your very own family archive. I’ll show you how to preserve those precious legacy items using pro-level archiving techniques.

I’m a 6th-generation Texan — so lots of family history there.
True confession: I broke the chain.
My only child was born in North Carolina! 😊

But perhaps more relevant to you, as an archivist who loves family history, I have a special appreciation of what it takes to make sure generational family photos survive. Trust me, I’ve been right where you are, scanning lots of photos, and I’m here to share what I’ve learned.

Why I created this?

I’ve scanned hundreds of photos. In the beginning, it felt like every time I started a new photo digitizing project, I had to figure it out all over…again. 🙄

So I took a step back from scanning, figured out step-by-step the best way to do it, and put it into workflows that streamlined the process.

I decided to create a course to teach anyone how to work through the whole process — and do it faster, more easily, using the methods and techniques that archivists use.

I wanted to package up what I learned and share it with more people because anyone who spends time on a photo scanning project deserves to get the best, long-lasting results.

I believe everyone has photographs that are meaningful to them. If you scan and preserve your digital images the right way, those photos can be meaningful to future generations of your family.

Photos on Computer

"What's the difference between a digital family photo archive and a folder of digital photos on your computer?"

Imagine a digital photo archive as your personal memory box, where every photo is not just saved, but also sorted and full of neat details like names, dates, and locations. It’s about keeping your family’s cherished photographs safe and easy to find.

On the flip side, a regular folder of digital photos is more like throwing your pictures into a big digital shoebox. They’re all in there, but it’s messy and hard to find anything specific.

The course shows you how to avoid that messy digital shoebox and, instead, create an enduring beautifully organized, easy-to-navigate photo archive that brings your family’s history to life.

"How's this course different from other photo digitizing tutorials available online?"

You’ll learn the same methods, techniques, and best practices that archivists use—but I’ll explain them in plain English. This unique approach ensures your digital family photo archive isn’t just a collection, but a well-preserved legacy.

"What if I'm short on time to dedicate to the course?"

Good news! You can complete the course in an afternoon.

You can do the course entirely at your own pace—it’s available online 24/7. This means you can work through it as quickly or slowly as you need, fitting it seamlessly into your schedule.

The simple workflows you learn in the course will help you move through your photo digitizing faster and more easily without costly mistakes—saving you time in the long run!

As crazy as it sounds, I KNOW there is someone in the future who will want to see and share the photographs that you have today. They will thank you for making time! 👏

"I want to create a digital family photo archive, but I don't want to break the bank. Is this course for me?"

This course is definitely for you. I focus on achieving the best results with what you have or can easily obtain. I’ll tell you exactly what you need — so you don’t spend money on things you don’t.

"Will I need to buy an expensive scanner?"

Most basic scanners will get the job done. The course provides information about the features you should look for in a scanner.

"What if I'm not a tech whiz?"

No worries! The course is designed with simplicity in mind. Each step is explained in a clear, easy-to-understand manner, ensuring you feel confident and supported throughout your photo digitizing journey.

I also provide Bonus Tech Tutorials to help out with the technology stuff.

The good news is — once you learn the steps much of a photo digitizing project is lather-rinse-repeat.

"What if I decide the course isn't for me after I purchase it?"

I offer a 14-day Money Back Guarantee. If you decide the course isn’t for you, just contact me with a brief explanation of why you think that is the case for a full refund.
